Another Free Pattern – Byzantine
Explore the world of needlework and hand-dyed variegated threads with our original free pattern. We only had a few colors when we released Byzantine – our first free pattern. It’s a simple design, worked only in Byzantine stitch, but we continue to get requests for it after all these years. This delightful 2 1/2” Xmas ornament design can be completed in a few hours and requires no finishing if that’s not your thing. We’ve heard of stitchers who have made dozens of this pattern, all in different Caron Watercolours shades. Start your own collection of family heirlooms for your tree now. DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT AND FREE ONLINE CLASS
Well known for her fine hand stitching and wholecloth quilt designs, Sandie Lush grew up with a strong knitting background. Introduced to candlewicking and Caron threads by her friend Beryl Frank of Leven Crafts, Guisborough, England. Sandie has combined Beryl’s use of colonial knots and beadwork with a new set of original quilting designs to produce a whole series of wholecloth Colonial cushion patterns. Learn about Sandie's journey into needlework in our DESIGNER SPOTLLIGHT. Be sure to try Sandie's special ONLINE CLASS on creating your own Colonial Knot Ring Pillow (right) . It's perfect for a spring wedding.
GET THE KIDS INTO HANDCRAFTS
The CARON Collection is proud to have introduced kids from all around the world to the needlearts and handcrafts. One Kids Project, originates from the Huichol Indians of Mexico and the Aymara Indians of Bolivia, who weave brightly colored yarn on a simple frame of crossed sticks to make a design called "Ojo de Dios" or "Eye of God". Originally, "God's Eyes" were made to be placed on an altar so that the gods could watch over the praying people and protect them. This well illustrated project, first published on our site in 1997, is popular with teachers who regularly request permission to use it. Feel free to pass the link around to your friends.
